Today was a healthier day for all of us, but a big food day for me. I didn’t stuff my face with sugary treats, but I did stuff my face with other items higher up on the nutrition spectrum. As predicted, I needed to spend the day writing which then led to a day of procrastination-related activities: laundry, movies, web surfing, non-paying writing, learning how to use my new copy of Aperture, etc. I finally sent out one article a few hours ago, but am still working on my second and final with a deadline of midnight. Of course, since I’m nowhere near being finished with it, I decided to take some time to write on my blog. I need an procrastination intervention.
Breakfast and lunch were delicious and unlike anything I would have made for myself 8 days ago: healthy. I started writing and then decided I needed peanuts and salami for a snack to continue. Dinner started off promising with a New York sirloin with peppers and onions on a bed of spinach, but then I found myself eating all the fatty parts that I love so much. I know there are lean cuts of beef, I’m just not interested in them. Is it wrong to like the fat on the meat more than the actual meat? This weakness also carries over to chicken and turkey skin, both of which taste so much better than the actual meat to me, but I digress.
After dinner it was a slippery slope of excess. First it was a large glass of red wine while I wrote. That was followed by an even bigger bowl of latte. I then remembered the jar of salted peanuts and ate the remaining half. Now I’m back to big wine. I should cut myself some slack. It’s not like I’m sneaking cake and ice cream, but I’m suddenly aware of my ability to rationalize overeating by telling myself the foods are “healthy” even though their serving proportions are not.

I’ve got less than 40 minutes to find my angle and carve it out to make my deadline. Here’s hoping Dinosaur Jr. and Morphine can bring it home before I run out of time and my neck spasms get worse.

I like this idea! And your photos are great!
Thanks! It’s an experiment in public dieting so we’ll see where it goes.
